Jani Lauzon is a 3 time Dora Mavor Moore nominated actress, a Juno and CAMA nominated singer/songwriter and the first Metis puppeteer to garner a Gemini Award. Jani Lauzon was a member of the NAC English Theatre Acting Company for 3 years, playing such roles as Cordelia/Fool in King Lear, Yvette Portier in Mother Courage and Chorus in St. Carmen of the Main. Film and TV credits include: Hard Rock Medical, Saving Hope, Destiny Ridge and Conspiracy of Silence. She won Best Actress at Dreamspeakers and the American Indian Film Festival for her portrayal of Doris in the feature film A Windigo Tale. Her first short film “eu·tha·na·sia” continues to show at festivals and she is currently in pre-production for her next film, Just One Word.
She was Co-Managing Artistic Director of Turtle Gals Performance Ensemble for 10 years helping to develop and tour several original works. She was playwright in resident at Cahoots Theatre where she developed her play I Call Myself Princess, based on the life of Creek/Cherokee Mezzo Soprano Princess Tsianina Redfeather.
Her company, Paper Canoe Projects produces her original work including A Side of Dreams, I Call myself Princess and Prophecy Fog. Both Prophecy Fog and A Side of Dreams continue to tour and I Call myself Princess is gearing up for a 2017/18 production.
