Jesse Wabegijig is Ojibway from The Wikwemikong Unceded Anishnaabek Territory on Manitoulin Island, ON, where is currently enrolled in the Internship program at Debajehmujig Storytellers. Prior to his internship at Debajehmujig, he attended the Royal Shakespearean acting program in Stratford, ON for two consecutive years. This past May Jesse was honoured to be invited into the student component of The Aboriginal Summit, a twelve day study of the Aboriginal Body of Work produced by the National Arts Centre and The Indigenous Performing Arts Alliance and hosted at the Debajehmujig Creation Centre. The opportunity to be present in the room with the path makers of Aboriginal Theatre in Canada was inspiring to say the least. Jesse was first inspired to enter the performing arts by his Godfather Jonathan Fisher a mainstay in the Aboriginal performing arts community and courageously supported by his mother Christine Collins.
