Mezzo-soprano Kristine Dandavino brings “extraordinary passion…[and] wonderful high notes” (Barczablog), to her “startlingly powerful”(BarczaBlog) voice in her portrayals in the Verdi and Wagner repertoire. For her Ortrud in Lohengrin, Ms. Dandavino was praised for “injecting her performance with the full dramatic flair of her malevolent, vindictive character” (Mooney on Theatre). Highlights of Kristine’s 2016/17 season includes a recital of Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder, Verdi’s Requiem, Ortrud in Lohengrin and Amneris in Aida.
2015-2016 saw Kristine as Zita in Gianni
Schicchi with the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra, Mezzo-Soprano Soloist in Viva Verdi with Oshawa Opera and as the Alto soloist in Vivaldi’s Gloria with the Ewashko Singers in April 2016 and soloist with the Toronto Opera Orchestra in An Afternoon of Italian Opera.
2014-2015 saw Kristine as Frugola in Il Tabarro (Cathedral Bluffs Symphony),
Marguerite in La Damnation de Faust (OperaTunities Ottawa), a solo recital with the Off-Concert Series JMC, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (Etobicoke Philharmonic), and Das Lied von der Erde (Opera by Request).
In 2013 -2014 she thrilled audiences as Azucena (Opera York) and Chimène in Le Cid (Toronto Opera Collaborative). Other career highlights include Ortrud and Santuzza (Opera by Request), Leonore in Fidelio (Toronto Opera Collaborative), Madame Flora in The Medium (Festival Orford), Magda Sorel in The Consul and Aunt Marsh in Little Women (Tryptych Opera).
Additionally, her voice is featured in Lois Alba’s book/CD Vocal Rescue: Rediscover the Beauty, Power and Freedom in Your Singing. She is the founder and director of Opera Oshawa, which she established with the goal of featuring singers from Ontario for audiences in the Durham Region. She is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and a student of Gioacchino Lauro Li Vigni. She lives in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, with her husband David and their beautiful daughter Zoé.
