Michel (european/Anishnaabe/Mohawk) is a Designer/Technical Director/Teacher currently based in Quebec. He has been involved in Indigenous Theatre for 30 years and is privileged to be a core member of the Chocolate Woman Collective. Michel has designed over one hundred productions and has been nominated for six Dora Mavor Moore Awards (Toronto) one Sterling Award (Edmonton) and one Leon Rabin Award (Dallas). He has toured extensively, most notably with The Rez Sisters (Native Earth Performing Arts/Act IV) Shadow People (Debajemuhjig Theatre Group) and several productions/years with Mump & Smoot. His work has been seen or heard in France, Haiti, Brazil and throughout North America at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Lajolla Playhouse, Yale Repertory Theater, the Dallas Theater Center, the American Repertory Theater, the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Alberta Theatre Projects, Theatre Network, Canstage, Native Earth Performing Arts,Tarragon Theatre, Factory Theatre, Debajemuhjig Theatre Group, Theatre Passe-Muraille, the Great Canadian Theatre, Centaur Theatre, National Arts Centre and many points in between. Michel also has an extensive teaching background and has worked at York, Laurentian, and Bishop’s Universities, he is currently the leader of theTheatre Production Mentorship at the Centre for Indigenous Theatre.
