Ryan is a proud Metis (Cree / Scottish / Dutch / Welsh) from Edmonton, Alberta and current Artistic Director at Native Earth Performing Arts.
He is the co-founder and previous AD of Alberta Aboriginal Performing Arts Association (AAPAA) and now serves AAPAA as the artistic producer and the co-curator for the RUBABOO Arts Festival. He is a board member for two national arts service organizations; IPAA (Indigenous Performing Arts Alliance) and the CanDANCE Network (Canada’s Contemporary Dance NSAO).
Ryan has been working professionally as an actor in TV, Theatre & Film for nearly two decades; most recently playing the role of Oswald in the all Aboriginal cast of KING LEAR at the National Arts Centre of Canada and co-starring in YUKONSTYLE at Canadian Stage. He is a founding member of The Agokwe Collective; A collective that remounts the 6 Dora award-winning production; AGOKWE by Waawaate Fobister with dramaturgy/direction by Ed Roy.
As an actor he has been involved in the development and initial productions of four published Canadian Aboriginal plays; DREARY & IZZY by Tara Beagan, STRETCHING HIDE by Dale Lakevold and Darrell Racine, SUICIDE NOTES by Ken Williams and ANNIE MAE’S MOVEMENT by Yvette Nolan; as well as NEXT YEARS MAN OF STEEL by David Belke. Ryan has co-produced and co-directed a number of plays and founded a successful promotions and Event Company in Toronto called Kimosabee Productions (2000-2006).
