Derek Garza is a First Nation Chicago-based Actor/Director/Technical Director.
He graduated from Penn State University with his Masters in Acting and received his Bachelors in Theatre at Adams State College in Alamosa, CO. He is originally from Colorado, but mostly grew up in Southern Oklahoma and is an enrolled tribal member of the Wichita Nation.
He has worked both regionally and internationally with many distinguished theatre companies such as Southern Colorado Repertory Theatre (Run For Your Wife, Sylvia, Noises Off!, Harvey), Pennsylvania Centre Stage (The Rivals, Push, As You Like it, Babes in Arms, Twelfth Night), Montana Shakespeare Co. (Romeo & Juliet), TimeLine Theatre (My Kind of Town), Native Earth Performing Arts (Almighty Voice & His Wife, Stake), Video Cabaret (War of 1812), Mortar Theatre Company (Inherit the Whole, I Am Montana), the side project (Mike & Seth, Push Button Murder), Halcyon Theatre (Between Poncho Villa & A Naked Woman), and Chicago Dramatist (The Mecca Tales), Welk Theatre Branson (Million Dollar Quartet) to name a few. He has also worked with such accomplished directors as Nick Bowling, Yvette Nolan, Tara Beagan, Michael Hollingsworth, John Basil, J.R. Sullivan, Tom Markus, Jim Wise, David Rotenberg, and Michael Greyeyes.
Derek also works in Film & TV with a few Co-Star roles in ABC’s Betrayal and NBC’s Chicago Fire under his belt, along with roles in short films like Supermodels with Tasers, Step on It, the feature film Voice of the Vespers, and he has lent his voice to the animated shorts Deep Ship, Wacky Robot, and Super Normal. Derek was a Co-founder & Former Artistic Director of Mortar Theatre Company in Chicago.
