Sister Says is West Coast duo/band fronted by Gillian and Robert Thomson who together perform genre-bending indie-pop. With jazz tinged vocals, Sister Says’s music ranges anywhere from heartfelt singer-songwriter music to playful soulful-folk. The duo’s second upcoming album, to be released, is drenched in a warm, vintage, raw sound.
In 2010 their debut album “The Only Way” was released. The album features lush arrangements with a full band and orchestration; and was nominated for two Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards.
Together the two also host Meet the Collective Podcast, which features talks with artists of all disciplines with a focus on the local music scene in BC. Meet the Collective can be downloaded for free online through iTunes and SoundCloud.
Throughout the years Sister Says have had the opportunity to perform a wide range of diverse shows. In Canada, they’ve performed at the Vancouver Indigenous Media Arts Festival, the Islands Folk Fest in Duncan, the Talking Stick Festival in Vancouver, and at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto, opening for Stars, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, and Les Colocs.
Internationally they’ve toured Beijing, China, where they performed at the BC Pavilion, and Central University of Nationalities, during the Beijing Olympic Celebrations.
