Marcus Merasty is a professional Métis dancer from Pelican Narrows, SK. He started performing with the Northern Prairie Dancers in 2013 and has toured nationally with the group. He’s also danced with other square dancing groups including the Creeland Dancers, and the Sihtoskatowin Dancers. Marcus started training in contemporary dance in 2014 with Robin Poitras artistic director New Dance Horizons after performing at the Ice & Fire festival in Regina. While in Regina he also trained with master jiggerYvonne Chartrand artistic director of Campaigni V’ni Dansi. Marcus also performed at the 2014 North American Indigenous Games opening and closing ceremonies with the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company and as part of the International Indigenous Artists Program. Marcus is currently part of the 2014/2015 Circle of Voices program under the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company, and just recently he’s performed at the Men in Dance festival in Regina. Marcus continues to train in contemporary dance, and plans on auditioning at the Toronto School of Dance Theatre over the summer.
