The Centre for Indigenous Theatre offers training in the performing arts to students of Indigenous ancestry. The Centre’s goal is to develop and implement educational programs that promote and foster an understanding of Indigenous theatre while providing the highest calibre arts training to Indigenous students from across Canada.
The Centre for Indigenous Theatre offers two unique training programs (visit the CIT website here for full details):
- Full-time Program: Three-year, post-secondary conservatory program that aims to develop contemporary performance art from an Indigenous cultural foundation. The training program springboards from Indigenous culture and contemporary theatre techniques such that students will receive uniquely Indigenous beginnings to their performance arts careers.
- Summer West Program: Three-week intensive program that offers introductory courses in performing arts technique from an Indigenous perspective. Students are instructed in acting, voice, movement, writing and storytelling. In addition to these basic performing arts techniques, students explore various forms of traditional song and dance.
